The Club's new practise nets are now open - Ladies Captain Sue Stokey hits the first shot!!
Chris Thompson, a consultant with Battens Solicitors, presents a donation from the Battens Charitable Trust to golf pro – Nick Rodgers - to help support the junior section of Came Down Golf Club. The junior section encourages young people to learn about golf and hopefully to take up the game.
Also present was Jake Tutton a young and promising golf player who has benefitted from the Junior coaching programmes at the Club. He now plays off a handicap of 11.
The Charitable trust was set up by the solicitors over 50 years ago in order to offer help to needy causes throughout Somerset and Dorset.
Peter Dawson former Ryder Cup Star visited the Club to launch the new Business Golf Network forum here at Came Down.
The weather couldn’t dampen the collective efforts of members, visitors and staff at Came Down Golf Club when three quarters of and inch of rain fell in less than an hour prior to the start of their Men’s Invitation Day sponsored by local renewable energy company Futurum supported by the Westover Group.
The delayed start of 2 hours finally got away as the weather began to improve and as the afternoon broke the clear blue skies made the morning’s rain a distant memory. Guests of members from local Clubs, particularly Weymouth made for a strong field of 148, one of the largest for this event in recent years.
The day was won by Came Down member Gareth Thomas with his guest Pete Corrick scoring a tremendous 44 points. They were followed by Jeremy Smith and his guest, Dave Tominey also from Weymouth with 43 points. Dave Allingham with Malc Read gave Weymouth guests a clean sweep on the podium with 42 points.
Came Down Golf Club hosted the Peugeot LGU Coronation Foursomes Area Final on Wednesday 30th July.
Howards of Dorchester proudly displayed two cars on the first tee with the scenic backdrop overlooking Dorchester with clear blue skies and a light breeze.
128 competitors from West Cornwall, Jersey and Bognor had qualified at their own clubs to play at Came Down in this event for the chance, should they win, to compete in the national final.
After just two groups had come in the leaders in the Clubhouse with 39 points were Ann Elliot and Angie Bruden from Dorset Golf Country Club, they remained leaders in the clubhouse for almost 5 hours whilst pairs jostled for the other positions lower in the field. That was until the penultimate group, Jill Morvan and Sharon Cullinane from Botley Park Golf Club in Hampshire presented their completed winning card scoring 43 points. Not only that but with Sharon holing in one at the par 3 2nd hole! Julie Hacket and Dilys Grant from Weymouth Golf Club came a very impressive third with 38 points.

On Saturday 19th July, Gareth Hughes won the Weymouth Cup, probably one of the most impressive trophies at Came Down Golf Club. The event was played over 36 holes, the winner being the best nett score. Gareth, playing off 5 shot two impressive nett 65s to win, having played his morning round with rumbling thunder all around him!
The Gross prize was won by Matt Walker with two glorious rounds of 69 and 67, demonstrating what great form he is in currently.
Second place in the nett event was Barry McSherry who beat Paul Conway with a combined total of 135 on countback.
In the gross event Ryan Ford shot 147 to come second with Geraint Hughes (father of the winner) coming third with another good total of 149.

Congratulations to Richard Evans who shot a tremendous 43 points to win the Captain’s Weekend Individual Prize on Sunday 13th July.
Baz Dennis and Chris Skinner were hot on his heels with 42 points to take second and third place, whilst they were followed by Alan Stickley (40 points) and Tim Old on 39 points.
Over 150 players took part on the extremely successful Sunday event despite the tricky wind. Once again the course was complimented throughout and the Captain thanked the members for their support throughout his special weekend
During Captain's Day, Jeff Morris holed in one on the 10th hole to ensure the Immediate Past Captain had two expensive Captain's Days in a row!
Congratulations to Tess and Peter Lush who won the Captain's Day Mixed Event with an impressive 41 points. They were closely followed by Jenny Feely & Charles Foster on 40 points with Sue Cox and Jeff Morris who finished third on count back
Sunday 29th June saw the Came Down Men’s Club Championship played over the beautiful Downs overlooking Dorchester.
Played over 36 holes, 18 in the morning, 18 in the afternoon, Matt Walker playing off scratch shot a morning round of 66 to hold a 5 shot lead ahead of Mark Stickley who shot 71. Defending champion Sam Roles and the ever improving George Carroll were close behind both shooting 73 and Simon Bailey just one shot further back.
Whilst the afternoon proved tougher for most of the field, Matt extended his lead by shooting an afternoon round of 67 thus winning the Championship Trophy with a superb 7 under par total of 133. George Carroll kept in with the pace shooting an excellent 71 for his second round which secured the runner up spot and Mark Stickley followed his first round 71 with a 75 to finish 3rd in the field on 146.
Captain Alex Anderson presented the trophy and prizes commenting on both the standard of scores and the excellence of the course.
Bob Scott, Alex Anderson (Captain), Bim Downes (Seniors Captain), Peter Fry and Tom Lane visit the Iron Duke when it visited Weymouth on 4th June.
